Davies Media Design has been creating GIMP tutorials for over 5 years now. So, I figured it was about time that I compiled a list of our best video tutorials based on number of views, ratio of likes to dislikes, and watch time. Over the years, you all have watched our tutorials for a variety of reasons. You’ve watched to learn how to edit your photos in GIMP, how to make custom designs for personal projects or for your businesses, or how to use the GIMP program itself. I can’t express my gratitude towards all of our viewers and subscribers that have helped make the channel what it is today! With that being said, let’s dive into the Top 10 GIMP Tutorials on YouTube:
#10 How to Design a Logo (2018)
In this GIMP 2.9.8 tutorial, I show you how to design a professional logo for a hypothetical tech company. I show you how to use the text tool (along with some text effects like drop shadows and the cubism filter), along with the brand new live-editing gradient tool, the maze filter, and the new vignette tool. These new features will be found in the upcoming (and much anticipated) GIMP 2.10 release, though this version I use is considered the “development version.”
#9 How to Create a Professional Flyer in GIMP (2018)
In this 2018 GIMP Tutorial, I show you how to create a professional flyer using the latest version of GIMP (2.9.8) – also known as the “development version.” You’ll learn how to remove an image background, add layer modes to create awesome effects with imported images, create neon text, create a lens flare, and add custom text. You’ll also learn the best settings to apply to your file for maximum print quality. This tutorial is great for promoters, small businesses, or anyone who wants to make their own flyers.
#8 Photo Manipulation Tutorial – How to Create Fantasy Lighting
In this tutorial, which is one of my personal favorites, I show you the power of some of GIMP’s photo manipulation tools to create fantasy lighting in an image. You’ll learn how to soften your image, enhance the eyes of your subject, and add rays and specks of light to add depth to your photograph. This photo editing tutorial is great for beginners, or seasoned GIMP users looking to improve their photo manipulation skills!
#7 How to Make a Website Banner
In our GIMP tutorial on How to Make a Website Banner, I show you how to design a banner by combining multiple images, adding text, and creating a button. These banners can go on any page of your website. Most importantly of all, they are designed to convert web traffic on your page!
#6 How to Make a Geometric Background Design
This popular tutorial on How to Design a Geometric Background in GIMP has, at the time of this article, a perfect 100 likes and 0 dislikes since we uploaded it back in May of 2015. #5 How to Remove Anything from a Photo in GIMP
This handy gimp 2.8 tutorial shows you how to remove objects from your photos using the healing tool. This tool allows you to paint over foreground or background objects by grabbing pixels from other areas of the image. This is accomplish by using an algorithm to learn from the pixels around the area where you are painting to better suit the area you are painting over. Our video tutorial is another way to improve your GIMP Photo Manipulation skills!
#4 How to Create a Double Exposure Effect
Create a Double Exposure Effect using GIMP 2.8 in this tutorial, which is one of our (relatively) newer and fastest growing tutorials. Double exposure refers to an old photography technique (back in the film days) when photographers would expose one negative over another to make them look like they were overlapping or that one was superimposed over the other. I’ll show you how to accomplish this look for a great image you can use for album covers, YouTube thumbnails, or any other art project!
#3 How to Make a Professional Flyer
Designing your own flyers for a show or an event at a club? This tutorial shows you how to make professional flyers using GIMP to help you accomplish just that. Put your graphic design skills to the test as we go through adding images to your composition, creating text and using text effects, using paintbrushes to create splashes of color, and using patterns and lens effects to make a flyer that stands out. This is one of three tutorials at the time of this article with over 130,000 views on our channel.
